We’re looking for Southwark neighbourhoods ready to retrofit as a community – and we will support you along the way.

What’s it all about:

Community-led, street-by-street home improvement (also known as retrofit) offers an easier, more fun and even a more economical alternative to isolated, one-off home improvements.

By bringing together neighbours who are able to invest in retrofit and learn together, together we can have the power to reduce cost, build confidence and turn often hard to understand and highly technical processes into a shared social project.

Community Retrofit delivers cosy, warmer and lower carbon homes while fostering trust, knowledge sharing and a renewed sense of connection with those who live the closest to us.

Selce has secured funding to support community-led retrofit in Southwark and is now looking for streets and neighbourhood groups who are ready to move forward.

We provide the guidance and coordination needed to turn shared interest into action.

A street-by-street approach shifts retrofit from an individual burden to an easier collective effort on reducing costs: decisions and learning are shared rather than faced alone.

Streets that improve their homes together don’t just cut energy use and costs, they gain knowledge.

And especially when we come together as a community – knowledge is power.  

What they can offer:

The grants offered can cover free retrofit workshops and support sessions to three separate neighbourhoods.

What this might look like:

💡 Retrofit parties at your local community space to discuss how to make home improvements to increase comfort and lower bills.

💡 Walking tours to get to know your area better and explore all the different ways people are upgrading their homes near you.

💡 Webinars with trained specialists in retrofitting domestic homes.

💡 Eco home tours to let you meet, quiz and learn from others who have already completed their retrofit journey near you.

💡 Hold training for champions in the community to come up with ideas about domestic retrofit and how to engage communities.

💡 One-to-one support for residents keen to inspire others to make home improvements that benefit both people and planet in their neighbourhood.

💡 They build on what they know works, bringing people together and sharing knowledge to make retrofit achievable rather than overwhelming.

We want to hear from you if:
