Campaign for Community Energy to Be Able to Sell Energy Directly to Local Homes and Businesses

Supporting Buying Community Energy Locally – House of Commons Early Day Motion 2151

Power for People is coordinating a national campaign for Government legislation to support community energy projects to sell energy directly to local homes and businesses. This would make many more projects possible and create the opportunity for local people to buy affordable clean energy generated in their community.

In recent months, welcome words from Ministers in Parliament together with the release of the Local Power Plan, show encouraging signs of the Government’s intention to make this reform. However, there has been no detail or timeline outlining when the Government will turn that intent into a reality.

That’s why Power for People are building support from MPs with Early Day Motion (EDM) 2151 ‘Buying Community Energy Locally’. This is a Parliamentary motion which allows MPs to publicly record their support for the reform.

EDM 2151 has now been signed by over 100 MPs. As more MPs come on board, the more effective it will be in persuading the Government to legislate for this change they keep saying they want to make.

You can support the campaign by writing to your MP today. Please ask them to: “Please sign EDM2151, which calls for community energy projects to be enabled to sell energy locally.”
