Selce’s 7th Community Share Offer Has Reached it Target!

– Our 7th community share offer’s aim is to fund a heat pump, powering a vital service – the 24/7 hydrotherapy pool at special education needs school Charlton Park Academy in Greenwich.

– This will be Selce’s 24th community financed installation – after 11 for LEDs, and 12 for solar – we are revisiting one of the solar sites from our first ever share offer to add renewable heating.

– The 60kW heat pump will reduce emissions by the equivalent of 33 households’ electricity usage per year.

–  Over 20 years of operation, it will save 313.4 tonnes in CO2e emissions. And in the same period, we’re also projected to save the school more than £150,000.

– By investing together, there’s so much we can do for people and planet. We are stronger together.

– UPDATE: As of 17 September, we have reached our target – thanks so much to everyone who has invested and supported our project so far – more updates soon!

Gas boilers account for 25% of Greenwich’s CO2 Emissions. This sector is the most challenging and vital to target in meeting climate commitments.

At the same time it is very underserved by the commercial market and the community energy space due to the complexity and lack of provable test examples.

There are currently fewer than five community energy projects tackling low carbon/renewable heat in London, none of which are in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Charlton Park Academy (CPA) has incredibly high gas usage and emissions as well as sky rocketing gas bills. This special needs academy is struggling to cope and wishes to be more sustainable and maximise the business case of this project.

Another step on the path for the schools plans to be a leader in fully decarbonising special education needs sites over the next 10 years.
